Using Gmail with IMAP

  • Gmail has a security feature where it blocks access to your account if a new app connects to it using standard IMAP security protocols.

    You have two options:

    1. Use the "Add Gmail Account" button in Speaking Email instead of the "Add Other IMAP/POP Account" button. This uses OAuth2 for increased security.

    2. You can change a setting in Gmail to "allow less secure apps" to access your email. This will already be turned on if you use Outlook or Thunderbird, which are also considered "less secure".
